Who is Banksy?

Aardman Animations created this cute little animation for the Encounters Festival in Bristol. The film plays on the mystery that surrounds the identity of one of the city's most famous sons: Banksy..

The film was created by Aardman director and animator Chopsy, and was commissioned by the Encounters Festival for the Grafitti Animation section, appropriately enough.

Banksy's New Simpsons Title Sequence

The elusive street artist Banksy has teamed with the guys from The Simpsons to create a one off title sequence for the shows latest episode. The intro segment illustrates a dark statement on consumer culture.

It starts as you would expect but the first sight of Banksy's input is his tag over a billboard of Krusty outside Springfield Elementary. In addition to dropping a few "Banksy" tags throughout the city of Springfield, Banksy also included a few of his signature rats in the segment and his own take on Bart Simpson's iconic writing on the chalkboard scene. But what made this intro segment so dark and what will likely have the most people talking was the additional scenes that came towards the end of the segment. Banksy takes us to a dark place where a unicorn and a panda are exploited to make Simpsons merchandise.
You should watch the video below for yourself to get the full experience, but my first impression is that these scenes are the artist's view on the ugliness of consumer culture. Illustrating sweatshop conditions and the abuse of human workers, the exploitation of animals, Banksy attempts to show the ugly side of consumerism.
